Overall looking into book illustration and it's origin, all the way to looking at current artists has helped me to understand the practice so much more. Book illustration is something I've always been interested in as an artist, so to be able to research into it and talk to other artists about their journey has been really inspiring!

I think there's definitely a lot more to it than I originally thought - especially after talking to Jamie and hearing about their experience. It seems like it's a surprisingly lonely job, so I think that would be a big challenge for me personally if I were to pursue it myself.
Talking to Chris at his talk was also really helpful. His advice about self promotion was so helpful and really interesting! I'd never thought before to use someone else's writing as inspiration to create work for as though it were a commission. It's a really great way of utilising social media as an illustrator as sometimes it's really difficult to promote yourself online alone.

All my research and talks have definitely made me more excited for my future as an illustrator. Though there are some new obstacles I wasn't aware of before, there are equally new ideas and opportunities I'm so excited to explore!
